May 2010 Memo to our Clients

A Letter from Agency Owner, Grethe Langeland Dillon, Regarding Former Employees

I write today to address an uncomfortable topic. Some former employees are contacting many clients by phone, letter, and in person to make a number of untrue statements about Calhoun in an attempt to get you to switch your insurance to their new agency. We have heard from some clients that these former employees have stated that if a certain form isn’t signed, then the client might not have insurance. I write today to make sure that you call our agency if you have any questions, at all, about your insurance.

These former insurance agents have stated to some clients that Calhoun did not acquire their former Woodbury office (we did), and, further, that Calhoun is somehow going out of business (completely untrue), or that we are somehow “in default” to them or have had a “failed sale.” I want to be very specific in stating that these statements are untrue.

While it is uncomfortable to feel we must defend ourselves against former employees who are trying to solicit your insurance business, we believe it is best to be clear. Our attorneys have advised us that we have a very clear and strong case against the former employees making these allegations, should we choose to pursue it. Calhoun does not disparage former employees. There are not two sides of this story; there are only facts.

Our reason for being here is to serve your insurance. Calhoun’s good standing in our community with our staff, carriers, clients, vendors, and neighbors, allows our small firm to represent the best names in insurance. We do not “broker” your business—we are appointed by your insurance carriers to represent them directly. We are independent. We are not beholden to any one carrier to recommend their coverage or product over another. We have been doing this for 102 years, and we plan to do it for 102 more.

It is our privilege to serve you. We are available by phone, email, or by appointment in our offices to talk about any insurance matter. In our 102 years of service, we have had employees leave for one reason or another. It is rare that we have an issue with this normal course of business. In this case, we want to assure you that our focus remains on you, our client.

In the last 18 months, Calhoun has evaluated our carriers and coverages relative to their premiums. The results are in! Please see our Personal Insurance Renewal Chart for great news on how we intend to help you further assess your personal insurance frugally and sensibly in 2010/11.

Yours truly,

Grethe Langeland Dillon, AAI

President
